Product Introduction
A 7α-methyl derivative of 19-nortestosterone, an anabolic–androgenic steroid with additional progestogenic activity. This compound **has never been marketed as a medicine** (a Schedule III research chemical in the USA) and is a research compound
Therapeutic Use
No approved indication. Developed for muscle wasting and post-surgical preservation of muscle strength; human implant studies were conducted in a male-contraceptive direction because of spermatogenesis suppression
Mode of Action
An androgen-receptor agonist with high AR affinity; the 7α-methyl substitution favours non-aromatisation, giving a high androgenic:anabolic ratio (about 200:100 versus 100:100 for testosterone); progestogenic activity markedly suppresses gonadotropins and spermatogenesis, which is why it was explored as a male contraceptive
Administration & Monitoring
Compliant research institutions only; human work requires ethics approval and monitoring of testosterone/oestradiol levels, spermatogenesis, liver function, lipids and prostate markers
Important Safety Information
**Never-marketed** anabolic steroid; no formal label and no established systematic safety data; non-medical use is unlawful. Schedule III in the USA, Schedule IV in Canada
Adverse Reactions
Injection-site reactions; androgenic features (acne, hirsutism); progestogenic-related effects (mood change, breast discomfort); suppressed spermatogenesis (azoospermia); raised transaminases and dyslipidaemia; insomnia and mood fluctuation
Important Risks
Reproductive suppression and male-contraceptive-related risk (azoospermia may persist for months); cardiovascular and lipid risk; dependence and psychiatric symptoms; no pre-existing marketed safety data, so risk cannot be fully predicted
Contraindications
No official contraindication information. By principle: pregnancy and lactation; men of childbearing potential (spermatogenesis suppression); known or suspected prostate cancer; children and adolescents
Special Populations
Contraindicated in children and adolescents, pregnancy and lactation, and men of childbearing potential (clear contraceptive risk); prostate and cardiovascular assessment in older males
Usage Limitations
Strictly prohibited in competitive sport (WADA Prohibited List); research institutions only; administration requires professional aseptic technique; controlled-substance regulations apply in each jurisdiction
Anti-Doping Testing
WADA Prohibited List S1.1; targets trestolone (7α-methyl-19-nortestosterone) and its metabolites, detectable in urine by GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS
Product Quality Testing
Identification (HPLC/MS/FTIR), assay/content uniformity, related substances, clarity and particulate matter, fill volume, sterility and endotoxin, residual solvents, stability; COA
