Product Introduction
An androgenic drug with anti-androgenic and weak anabolic activity. An oral formulation (drostanolone tablets) is used for benign prostatic hyperplasia and androgenic alopecia; the entries here are compounded oil-based ester injectables.
Therapeutic Use
Benign prostatic hyperplasia, male-pattern androgenic alopecia, acne; use in women requires great caution. The injectable ester forms have no approved indication in most markets
Mode of Action
5α-reductase-inhibitor-like structure with dual antagonist/partial-agonist activity at the androgen receptor; anti-androgenic effect dominates the anabolic one; not significantly aromatised; preferential action in DHT-target tissues
Administration & Monitoring
Use as prescribed; with long-term use monitor PSA, lipids, liver function, and menstrual/endocrine changes in women
Important Safety Information
Prescription medicine; non-medical abuse is unlawful. Combining with other anabolic steroids may aggravate androgenic adverse effects
Adverse Reactions
Injection-site reactions; headache, flushing; raised PSA and prostatic irritation in men; menstrual disturbance, hirsutism and voice change in women; mild transaminase elevation and lipid changes with long-term use
Important Risks
Fluctuating testosterone levels if doses are missed; low but non-zero gynaecomastia risk; adverse lipid profile
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity; pregnancy and lactation; known or suspected prostate or breast cancer; urinary obstruction in men; paediatric use
Special Populations
Contraindicated in children and adolescents; assess the prostate in older males; generally avoided in women of childbearing potential unless benefits clearly outweigh risks
Usage Limitations
Prescription-only; availability of the injectable form depends on local regulation; periodic review required for long-term therapy
Anti-Doping Testing
Drostanolone is on the WADA Prohibited List S1.1; urinary targets are drostanolone and its metabolites, detected by GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS
Product Quality Testing
Identification (HPLC/MS/FTIR), assay and content uniformity, related substances, clarity and particulate matter, fill volume, sterility and endotoxin, residual solvents, stability; COA
